vray question

hey guys i got vray of the net and as i install it it says i need to locate my 3dmax/austodesk VIZ(tm) root but i dont have that can anyone tell me how i can get that folder so i could install vray.

im guessing it should be in autodesk/3dsmax/... and i think in plugins or in bin

you need to have 3sdmax installed first..

hey yan i do have 3dmax installed my attachments will show you what im after. Does anyone have a link on where i can recover 3dmax folders or a way to do it??

with the folder the folder you installed autodesk max is meant.
you have to have 3dsmax OR Autodesk Viz installed.
if you forgott where you installed max :confused: try search for "max" in windows.

how can you select the max.exe file it only lets you select a folder not an exe file

you only have to select the folder there is no part in the installation of vray where you have to select the executable.

first field folder whre 3dmax is installed
second field \3dsmax\plugins\

Win XP right?.... Why dont you click Start -->Search-->For Files and Folder... and type in 3dsViz in search field and see if they find it. Once they find it, look at the left panel for the file's link, then point out that in VRay blank box. Easy huh?

maybe your missing something try home site of vray. or it could be your version of max, because the latest im guessing is for 8

the vray i got is useable for max 7 and 8

did you mean the file 3dsViz is found from the Windows search engine? if so, then at the right panel of the search engine, it should show the link of the folder where the file is located. I.e. c:\xxx\Autodesk\3dsViz. Write it down, or flip and flop the window panel between the search engine and vray whatever that thing pop up. copy/type in that blank box of vray pop up thing of the folder/file link that is found from search engine.
Do same for the plugin for 3ds max. Normally it should be C:\Program file\3dsMax\Plugin (if I can remember)... that should work.

Equi my search engine didnt fid the 3dsVIZ folder it said that i dont have it i even linked where the 3dmax.exe is to the first line when vray asks for the VIZ folder and it still doesnt work. Am i missing a file and can i just make a new folder in the same root as where max has been installed and name it VIZ??
i would really like to get vray working.

is it the right version of vray? for max 7?
what about asking at chaos group? they have a good forum, don't know why you are asking here when you bought vray from chaosgroup.

search for "3dsmax.exe"
you either need 3dsmax OR VIZ not both of them.
ich think you have 3dsmax so search for the mentioned exe.
then enter the path the exe is located (you can find it in the search)
another option is to check where the link of your 3dsmaxlink on your desktop goes.
for that simple rightklick on it.

hope you will get it now.

Try to reinstall the max and vray, may be you erase the archive for something someday.
But for install vray in theory it's like someone said, in the first row you need to put the 3dsmax carpet and in the second one the plugins carpet.
May be the version that you have it's only for the max 5 and 6 and not for the 7 and 8.

i got it working guys thank you so much but now i got another problem a message came up when i opened max it says dll<C:\3dmax7\plugins\vrayplugins\vraydomecamera.dlo> failed to initialize. Error code: 126- The specified module could not be found.

Any ideas guys

did you run VRLServer first and than run 3ds max....otherway around wont work....(you probably did all the render scene/assign renderer/....)

hmm, its not a good things to say that you dont buy the apps you use...
and more when you re not able to use it correctly..
think mods need to stop this right now, as cg-cars is not a "cg-warezed-cars" web site...
think about this before saying in a public forum that you have problems with a non legal apps...
but before learning such tools, you neeed to know how to install correctly your apps.
i never see people who dont know good their PC using correctly their 3d apps.
and as vray is not free, and think they dont give a trial version, i think when you say "i got it from the net" you dont have the licence...
is it the same for your rhino and studio tools apps??????...........

i assume many people use "not legal apps", to not say warez, and i understand when we see the price of such apps, and we all need/want to learn etc.. but plz dont say you dont buy it here!!!!

for info, vray cost like 800$, and its for one node.....!!! and chaosgroup offer some good support to avoid such problem.. but if you buy it...
so, buy it, or learn how to use it, but dont claim on public you dont buy it!!

the last time i d/l the file to bench a scene, and what a suprise when i see that Max ask for the hdri file in E:/EMULE/DOSCHdesign.....

if you dont stop that right now, this (very good)site will have some problems soon, 'cause many people who are new to cg will make the same error:speak in public about non legal things.....

its my personal opinion.... and its not good at all for all of us...

Since you are using the trial, I believe you can still get support from their forum.

my appologies yan for going off at u like that but i just wanted to test vray before i bought it but i still cant try it cuse it tells me i got some missing dlo files when i first start max. I can quiet get my thumb on it can anyone help me has it happened to any one??

also you can post it in the problems forum. installation must be the same.


sorry to say it once again but if you got your vray legal or you have the free version, why don't you ask there? the forum was build for problems like yours.
