ok lol i have now got a new prob! Vray Will render any clay model, no matter how high the res, also renders low poly stuff, but when I apply a vray car paint to my model it renders 2 passes (on low) and then gets a quater of a way through and then max crashes! :( does anybody have any idea why it would be doing his!

how much ram do you have?

and try this: in the system window in vray window, set the dynamic memory limit to dynamic, and add all the ram you can.

you might wanna ask that in the official forums, as you will most likely get better answers and in case of a bug a fixed build

arf, 512 is the less you can have with an xp os, if you have xp... window already take 250Mo at least, just to run....so with max, that lets you only 128Mo, maybe less...
so that depend of the number of polys of your scene, the size of the rendered image, size of the map if you use some etc...
just check the memory use when you render your scene(ctrl+alt+sup). if you go up than your 512Mo, no way, you will not be able to render it...
if that crash with only a box and a teapot scene, its another problem.

Yan, when one of my 512 burned out (Used to be 1GB) I am still able to render, setting up multiple object in viewport and sometimes run other program such as PS, Rhino and etc while max's running which probablly used up 128 mb, and max haven't once crashed.

I think its all pointed to virtual memory, not memory stick itself.

i can live in viewport with 1,3millions polys with geforce 6600 and 512mb over 100fps so u can still use many polys. even if u have less ram

My file is only 678 kb it renders fine in a clay render. but its only when I render with a vray shader on it. I have also tried rendering in mental ray and the same happens arrrggg I dunno whats happened! Could it be the heat of my machine??
