nice work, very good for lowpoly. if possible, you might want to revisit some of the work on the side.

rodder
Thanks! I just noticed the sharp sideline angle near the a pillar, is that what you meant or is there more?
7730 polies so far, 10 000 is the limit.

great work on the modelling but the renders are a bit less impressive.

Sadly I don`t have AA
8784 polies (10 000 limit) and the exterior is done, so I get to put all what`s left to the interior.

looks pretty good but could you try mapping or something to make the lights look better?
regards,

:p Did you think I was going to leave it like that? I haven`t started textureing yet.

sorry, it's just that you were only posting with materials so i made a guess. oops.
regards,
rodder
The modeling part is now done, it has 9993 tris (10 000 limit). Next updates will be on the textureing.

looks pretty good if the car's only viewed from the exterior. If there's interior views being accomodated too than it's a bit low on detail.
regards,
rodder
There will be no interior views so the detail should be enough.
I started textureing, the wheels, calipers and discs are all on a 256x256 texture (required). The rest of the car has to fit on a 512x512 texture.

this is impressive man i like it very much just keep it going and be careful with ur wheels cuse they take heaps of polies.
rodderworld

in that case the interior is perfectly suited. good start to texturing.

How about joining forces to put this car into Racer against its bigger sister? :P

Btw I strongly recommend you use a 2048x2048 texture and in the end have a downsized 1024x1024 version while preserving the original 2048x2048. IMHO and as facts show (on other models) 512x512 won't make it justice. 512x512 will be good for the interior + decals (to have them hi-resy).

Racer isn't my creation, its Ruud van Gaal's (www.racer.nl), I only put cars into it.

how do you add cars into racer? Is there programming involved? What kinds of shaders do you use, for carpaint etc in the game?

most car games have ways to mod, if you look through the program files it's often possible for you to deduce most of the programming. for the non-programmer, there's software out ther and some games have sites telling you how. as for race, outtanames seems to have perfected it.

Putting cars into Racer is easier than any other game...that is one of it's basis targets as a car sim. Say you model in 3dsmax or lightwave or zmod...doesn't matter really...once you're done you need to export it out as a *.ASE and then to Racer's file format which can be done with a program that comes with Racer...that procedure takes about 30 seconds. After that its just dropping the car/wheels/calipers models you got in a new folder, dropping it into the racer/data/cars and slapping some inis from another car (a relativley new car) and tweak the inis to the new car. Racer cars are usually up at high standards, meaning they have nice amount of polies (10-20ks) and a good relation between the body and wheel models PC, same goes with textures...texture sizes consist of 1024x1024 and 512x512 res AND most textures are the mesh unwrapped and baked nicely in Max, afterwards altered here and there and completed in Photoshop, thats how you get BEST results.
P.S., putting together a shader file is piece a cake really, first thing I can tell ya is we use fresnel layers on the paint and windows and you can custom the shader how you want according to the mesh materials you've set. :)

The textureing of the body is basically done, just minor tweaks left(logos). I`ve got about 1/3 of the 512x512 texture map left over for the interior.

Very impressive, what version of NFS can it be used in?
rodderworld
24-09-06, 10:32 PM
great work. only one crit, the blue colour behind the logo is fairly different from the car paint blue.
regards,
rodder
@SimonGibson - Thanks! It should be suitable for nfs6/nfs5, I have to find convertors because I don`t have those games.
@rodderworld - As said, they aren`t quite done yet, I`ll use transparency on those different color areas, but I don`t want to convert to .tga before the whole texture is done.
For those who are interested you can check out some other contestants work here (http://www.nfscars.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18204/), there`s a list of contestants in the first post.

Hi, looks very nice, do you know how its implemented? did you use normal mapping? what about the framework of the game is it an opensource project, i guess its written in c++ ?! do you use directx? the lightning is very nice, maybe you can give us some background information (im also interested in graphics/game programming)
regards dan
@andrew - Thanks!
@slice56 - Thanks! It`s 9982 triangles.
@tridmodeler - Thanks!
@dan - I only did the model and textureing (no normalmapping, uses only "paint" textures and reflects the enivronment in this game. The later pics are from racer, which AFAIK is opensource software, webpage is here (www.racer.nl), outtanames is putting it in the game and will probably know more about this.

Very, VERY impressive Tonn.
I have alreday contacted outtanames about writing something for us on how to get a model into Racer. Hopefully when he has some spare time .. ;)
I'm sure there would be a lot of people interested in that.
Nice to be able to take your virtual car out for a spin !

Its a closed opensource project...meaning you can look at the code but not change it, compile and release as your version etc'. Not sure, I think its idd programmed in C++, its not using D3D but OpenGL...check out the forums @ http://forum.rscnet.org/forumdisplay.php?f=111 as they contain a much more up-to-date info.
