Hi
I wonderd if some people are intrested in a group project.
I think not everybody knows what it is or how it works.
So here a little explanation.
There is 1 car you all going to model and you all show your wip in 1 topic.
I've seen this kinda projects on threedy and I thought maybe some people here would like to do the same kinda thing.
It's good for the beginners. They can learn much from it. (I'm a beginner)
I hope this is a good Idea and I hope people want to spent their time on things like this.
Please tell me what you think of this Idea and maybe you could tell what kind of car you want to be modelled on the project.
Regards,
Gizmo

Very good idea man! I've got an additional idea: We take some people in a group, plan a concept design car, and then every body model anothe part of the car, maby someone model the roof of the self designed concept car and some othe model the hood, or so... :D

This is also a great idea, maybe we can do both.
1 concept design project and 1 group project.
That would be great.
I think a concept car design is a bit to advanced for beginners.

Hi! Sound good to me. But will it be low or high poly? And how about the modeling style (Box, poly, nurbs) or doesn't that matter?!

hi...
very good idea. Iīm beginner too and I very embrace the challenge to assignment of experience. Yeaa, count with me.
(My opinion is, that everone should make own model. Not divid into pieces, you make hood, you make bumper....I think it is very good idea too, but not for beginners, and everybody use different software to make model.)
OK...how will be blueprints? :buttrock:

All good ideas .... :)
BUT ALSO :
There will shortly be an announcement regarding a CG-Cars group animation project.
There is a LOT of preliminary work being done behind the scenes, and CG-Cars will be introducing the Team Leader for this new project, very soon. Expect an announcement in the next few days regarding this new and exciting project. I'm looking forward to it, too :D

That doesn't matter. ;)
Just what you can do the best.
I saw no negative reactions yet so I think its a good idea to think about what car we could use for this project.
First of all, what kind of car do you want to model?
Sport car/Clasic car etc.
I would like to model a sport car.
I don't know which one but I preffer to model a modern sport car.

09-10-06, 08:49 PM
Great idea. It would be helpfull to look how other people handle modeling problems.
We should begin with a "simple" car. I don't mean a Audi TT ;-). But also no Pagani Zonda or something... It must be but a good car for both beginner and experienced users!

10-10-06, 02:14 PM
i see bsmmpower's point. In my opinion the benefit of a group project though is that you can work with others to find solutions to problems. In doing so, it seems like a waste to take a car that:
A) as bsmmpower said is easy (Audi TT)
or
B)is overdone (nissan z, lambo)
If there were decent bps, i don't see a problem taking a zonda because it is deifficult. Although i have no clue how i would model it, in a group scenario, there would be the potential to pool knowledge. The challenge of modelling is diminished working in a group so the model itself must be more challenging.

rodder
.GizmO.
10-10-06, 04:07 PM
Hmm, lambo/350Z/TT are done too much.
I want to model a orginal model. Not one which is done 1000 times.
Zonda is way to dificult for beginners like me.
It's gonna be tough for one group of people with so many hands trying to touch a single car. I don't really see the benefit here compared to all the troubles that we might get.
What about making a track? Race track or something. Perhaps when done we can all have nice environment for our cars.
This way work can be easily divided and it is possible to create a large scale scene that would otherwise be impossible if it were to be done by an individual.
Talk about track design, modelling, texturing, rendering, most of the tasks can be easily split to different group.
Just an idea.

Hmm..
Would that make a problem with vareity type of 3d application? i.e. exporting/importing LW to 3ds max or Rhino to C4D, XSI to Modo and etc?
Maybe keep it in a mesh format that everyone agrees to work with?
Usually a public project like this is gonna be damn tough to be carried out but since they really wanted a public project, we'll see what will come out in the end of the discussion.
rodderworld
10-10-06, 10:41 PM
snecx is right about too many people. No matter how you arrange it, if everyone gets involved, we would surely end up stepping on eachother. Maybe we should divide into teams for a challenge.

rodder

11-10-06, 04:22 PM
How you mean to many people?
Every one makes his own car and people help each other.
Don't really see a problem.

11-10-06, 05:38 PM
@gizmo: group help and group projects aren't the same. if someone wants to upload a mesh for help, they can already do it. A group project goes a step further, people model different parts of the car.
I was just thinking about this and thought that maybe the best way to do this would be to have a challenge (ie. tuner challenge2 or some other subject) and have people announce groups (3 or 5, any number really) that they would be working in. after that, they could share a wip thread for their project and declare a winner.

rodder

hey guys,
so one time again, like dave_3d already posted in this thread, it all will be organized by the CG Cars Team, and we will officialy announce the project as soon as we are ready with the preprocessing.
so please, stay tuned a few more days. ;)
Thanks for your attention!

I didn't mean a group project like every body makes 1 part of it.
I just mean a group help thingy. I just called is as on threedy.

mechatronz
12-10-06, 12:35 AM
Why did u suggest that?......
demolisher
12-10-06, 02:18 AM
a good idea it has been said before in this forum however if there was a group of 4 people and each and single one of the modelled a seperate part how will they connect it? ur ganna have a car with a nice front but with a shitty back and maybe the polies on the side wont match the polies on the back and that will limit how many people will actually finish it.
but another great idea will be if the forum supllies groups with one car and then tune it up street style. they make the rims and the spolier and there for different people can make different kits within the group, for instance one person might make the front bumper and someone else the sideskirt and the other two can maek the wheels and spoliers or whatever. but starting a car from scratch will be really hard. great idea tho

A 350z is nice but a little bit very overdone.
A car like 300c would be awesome or a M3
Sotman

i personally think a m3 is 2 hard 4 beginners.
you should choose a "roundly" car

12-10-06, 08:41 PM
The Chrysler 300C would be nice! When do we start? Maybe we can allready add some blueprints, reference of the car that we are going to model?!
Maybe add a poll to choose wich car it is going to be?!

Thats true, well I will look again :-). Sould be a racecar so everyone could make his own paint for it. And then line them up at a racegrid :-)...
Always wanted to do a drift car! So maybe a "simple" Toyota AE86 Sprinter? Or maybe a other one (cant really find any good blueprints for drift cars). Is that a idea?
Or the Ferrari 355:

Are there good blueprints of the Viper and Porsche? For the Rx-8 are allready tutorials. A Mazda RX-7 is a nice car but I think the Nissan 200SX is a easy-er car to model? Like both of them!
So can someone add a poll to choose wich car it will be? There must be good blueprints for it!

True! So lets model the Nissan then!?!
Here's the blueprint. I will make it better that the black lines will go away. Maybe I will make a standard scene wich I'll post here so everyone has the start scene!
Blueprint: nissan_200sx.jpg (http://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nissan200sxjy4.jpg) (5000px x 2436px).
Got it also in 8000px wide but I dont know if that is to big to work with!?

I can remove those black lines and put in in a max file. But thats all. I can't post it on .obj format or something. I think they use other blueprint setup so thats problem nr. 2
The one I post is made in max 8. so max 7 users can't open it. ( I thought it was something like that)
[EDIT]
I've attached the blueprints for the people who use other apps.
Now going to make setup in max.

Whoa ! Guys ;)
Let me be very clear here. This new section would be for this Project only - the one you are discussing in this thread. We have plans for other Projects and you can see we have already launched the Animation Workshop.
What I meant was that if you get the Project described in this thread, where you all want to work on the same car up and running - then it will get a little section of its own that you can all post in.
Of course, that is not to say that any suggestions for Group Projects will be ignored, but let's concentrate on this present suggestion you have put forward in this post.
So Basically, we need for this Project :
The Car you have chosen (200sx) ?
The Start Date
At least a few people who wish to join in - so we need a show of hands here - Who's interested ???
An area where you can post your own thread showing your progress
An area where you can all discuss how you are solving any modelling problems, tips etc.
In return a small section will be created (as outlined above) where you can post your progress. It will be moderated as all the other Forum Sections but basically you guys will set the rules and pace, not us.
How does that sound ?
Dave
