i redid some parts of the hood and side panel, but ive still got some bumps on near the light area which i plan to fix on the next update.
Looks cool. You've got a clean mesh there. Waitin' to see more. :D

great so far, but there are lil bumps around the outer headlight. Maybe you can get rid of em, this is because the mesh is difficult at this area, i think. ;) :buttrock:

fixed the bumper (well i like to think ive fixed it), here are some renders and im going to redo the rim cause its not accurate at some places.
Very nice and clean modelling! I don't know though if the grille should be overlapping the inner headlights, I've tried to check some references but it's hard to tell. Maybe you have some better ones.
Anyways, I'm really looking forward to see the rest of this!
younglion
18-02-07, 05:06 AM
thanks man but i dont understand the grille overlapping the headlights, can you explaing or show me what you mean? a few updates nothing major.
Levente
18-02-07, 09:15 AM

The sunroof could probably use more width, but that's your personal choice.
I couldn't find any general errors on the hood arches, good job on the precision detail.

dont' know if it's intentional but the gap size isn't looking consistent on the inset piece for the front bumper. sorry, i don't know what the exact word for it is and it may just be pov problem.

13-03-07, 07:56 AM
nice job on the airhole, but there are again basic issues the sensor is in the wrong place its more to the left above the airhole, plus that edge is softer
younglion
13-03-07, 01:16 PM
@petter & nitrox - thanks for the compliments
@levente - the sensor is not directly above the right vent, i do have to reposition it but not that far. i dont under stand the lines you put on the left side, can you explain that part a bit more?
younglion
17-03-07, 12:30 AM

Insane detail on the brake caliper. I've spent some time watching your wireframes just to learn so.. thanks :)
Wow, I'm extremely impressed by the level of detailing. The only sad thing about this is that it will take some time before we can see the complete car I guess. Anyways, great work!

Pan3sar
28-03-07, 10:35 PM
really nice man. couple of crits the tyre bump is blurry and looks strange, and I think you have bumps on the rim - the part with lots of nut holes, near the outer edge. Apart from the wheel the render looks great;)
rodderworld
28-03-07, 10:54 PM
the body looks great in this render, sleek and all. the wheel looks ok but most of it's flaws have been pointed out. also, the wheel mat is a bit lagging behind the progress made on the rest of the project. still, good job.

roder

Your avatar looks somewhat similar to your latest render. Did you change the material of the car for your avatar, or the other way around?

i concur i was trying to find an easier way to do the tail lights but i guess im gonna have to model some things and bump map and so on. thanks
rodderworld
02-04-07, 02:13 AM
no problem, i guess you can't fake depth completely. you might not have to model it all out. just do enough to show that there is some depth (ie. lens and then map what's behind it.

rodder
younglion
03-04-07, 12:46 AM
ill try that, so i just did a little rendering today with a slight photoshop touch up.
rodderworld
03-04-07, 01:31 AM
on the whole, it looks very nice. just a few thoughts. the mesh in the front bumper needs some depth, it looks totally flat. also, the indicator mats on the mirror are fake looking although i think you know that. keep it up, the reason i'm picky of late is 'cuz i like this project.
regards,
rodder
younglion
03-04-07, 02:12 AM
actually the mesh is modeled and it has depth, yea the turn signal, i didnt really do anything to it so it looks bad, and the scene need a bit more sunlight and some other stuff to make it look better.
rodderworld
03-04-07, 01:21 PM
ok, my bad on the mesh. i didn't spot anything there so i figured... :banghead: :banghead:

sorry to tell, but the renders are pretty bad...i don't say i'll make them better, but you have to make them very high quality for this very good modeling quality

check the shadows...are too sharp
younglion
05-04-07, 02:39 PM
@petter - i wouldn't say they are pretty bad but they could be a lot better
@levente - i use maya which doesn't have vray renderer, my scene setup is a sky jpg mapped onto a sphere and a normal spot light as the sun.
@legolaz - yea im aware of the reflections, ill fix them ad also im gonna tweak the paint some more.
im also gonna render this in xsi and see how its gonna look like. thanks.

You have seams down the middle of the car you should look into merging those vertex
younglion
07-04-07, 01:44 AM
thanks, i spent some time modeling the merc logo, fixing the rear bumper and also testing and tweaking some shaders. dont mind the logo in the rear it was just slapped together and looks terrible ill fix that on the next update.
petter
07-04-07, 08:36 AM
1. the exhausts are slapped too...
2. no rubbers on the rear window !!
3. greath rearlights,now...
work, work... this car can be one of the greats, like the one on cg-cars screen logo or even better(down the frontpage, forums,gallery...buttons)
hunter
07-04-07, 08:39 AM
You're modelling is excellent, but your renders could be a lot better.
yeaa the last renders are much better than the old ones... now the thailights look good :D
younglion
07-04-07, 03:35 PM
thanks for the comments yea the renders are not on par which is at the moment my achilles heel, so i guess ill have to post some clays until the modeling is done but occasionally sneak in some colour renders. but as for the exhaust i will work on them some more and they are not much different from the original. check the ref pic.
EDIT: @ petter - take a look at the real car it has no rubber on the rear glass
et_fone_home
08-04-07, 11:12 AM
The last time i saw this car, it was very good, come back after a while, it looks awsome, It clean and very nice, but i think the renders are dragging it down abit, the realism in the renders are not up to scratch, it can be improved a bit.
The render on the forest is impressive. Maybe if you rotate the tires on one side (avoiding the visible symmetry)... that way it would be more dificult to know if it's CG or real. The dirt on the tires is really good.

1.excelent car paint...
2.the scene is too dark
3.work on environement for reflexions
i second what petter said , and i don't really dig the rims
yo ppl
@ petter's post ... i don't think that scene is too dark ... it's quit ballanced, but i'm agree with this: work on environment for reflections
i think that reflections spoil a lot in ur last renders younglion ... if u didn't change anything (i mean reflection stuff) since previous (white paint) renders i think u should work on it 'cuz on white paint it's looks super
i know that's kinda hard 2 make some nice reflections but there's nice tip on michael's q7 thread (http://cg-cars.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2366&page=11 post #107) 2 help u get ql reflections on car ... i'm sure u have seen that :) but if not ... it's 3ds max stuff but i'm sure theres all options/tools/etc. similar in maya so u gona make it :)
good luck & pozdro
rodderworld

28-04-07, 04:21 PM
thanks for the tips, but thoise rims are kleemann rims and i like them as for the roof part that reflection is part of an hdr image, but i will work on it. and i think i will hold of on rendering for a while cause i wanna focus on the interior now. but i will still play around with the studio and material setup till i get it right .peace.

Why you don't use car paint phenomena ?
petter
29-04-07, 05:03 PM
ok. i correct myself.
actually, maybe, the direct illumination's not too dark but it is dark where the GI should work...
the final render MUST be outstanding. hope you don't considder this good and give up
younglion
29-04-07, 10:01 PM
thanks for the comments, iam using the mr paint, i just added a sampler info and a black and white ramp to simulate the fresnel effect, yea ill add some gi to my renders and hopefully they will look better, but right now the interior is kinda challenging but ill through it.:D

yes thats basically how i start, i start with the areas that look identical and make sure those parts are right then i get into the details

i can't really point anything out on the wire but in the smoothed clay it looked like you were having bump issues on the back driver side of the gauge pod.

thanks for the comments, iam using the mr paint, i just added a sampler info and a black and white ramp to simulate the fresnel effect, yea ill add some gi to my renders and hopefully they will look better, but right now the interior is kinda challenging but ill through it.:D
Hi Younglion
I'm stuck with what you said.
I don't really understand where you plug the sampler info and ramp on the mr paint.
What is the advantage with this kind of shader, and do you think you have more control on the reflection/refraction ?
i'm trying to understand
thx

It just occurred to me that the material on the rims looks more for a japanese tuner. And I just can't favor the rims. Have you thought about other brand rims, like lionhart, lowenhart, and brabus?
There's nothing wrong with a kleemann body shell with different brand rims

@ ReyEng - thanks for the compliments, you should take a look at this thread (http://cg-cars.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1534&highlight=mercedes) theres where i also got help with the body of this car.

ok i did some renders overnight, i discovered some bumps on the front bumper. ill be fixing them.
looks fine 4 me :)
car front render looks awesome (headlights & rear reflections r superb), but i think U should work a litle on bg ... IT'S ONLY MINE OPINION, but i don't like black bg. IT'S BORING & lots of ppl make something like that :(
but if U like it it's OK 4 me :)
5* from me :) keep up good working younglion / pozdro

the car has a lot of bumps around the rear fender and down the headlights.. that's all i can see, because of your dark scene.
zilak's right... use a more complex environement and more lighting
the reflections makes the carpaint look nice.if the shader doesn't have what to reflect, then it'll won't look so nice...
keep practicing
Levente
27-05-07, 12:31 PM
hey younglion you can do better renders then those. these renders are bad , not enough lightning more then half of the car are too dark cant see shit, the wheels mat look like plastic, :banghead:

the render with the warmer tones looks better to me. i know it's a silver car but i don't know if the colder tones of the first one does much to draw me in. the only real crit i have is that the rear fender is reflecting as if it's really quite bumpy. don't know if that's a modelling or rendering issue but it undermines how nice this car is.
regards,
rodder

14-08-07, 03:05 PM

the scultp tool is good but need a lot of poly to works..
Masakari987
15-08-07, 02:16 AM
It's looking really nice. As for renders, I like the one with the warmer tones. The one with colder tones seems to blend in with the background too much, IMO.
Yeah, the sculpt tool usually works best with NURBS or Sub-Ds. Although, it could work well with a smoothed polygon object, but if it's a smooth proxy, the connection will likely be lost between it and the low poly mesh.

If your up to it, add realism to the seats by making creases. You know that leather seats are not 100% smooth. But the modeling is good.

the top of the rear fender is much improved, the lower part still could have some more fluid reflections.

it like a hard hit when i see more and more people who theyer hard disk crushes.and after all of these, nobody does anything, like making periodically back-ups:banghead:.
not even i:banghead:
now i see better car paint shader. the poblem it's your environement.
try using some HDR maps for setting the material's reflection and then create your own environement.
rodderworld
27-09-07, 12:35 PM
looks good. the reflections flow well in most spots except a few weird areas on the bumper. also the white reflection on the fender is too bright and harsh given how light the render is.

28-09-07, 02:54 AM
thanks for the crits, actually this studio is very simple and nothing special, i just used one light with gi active, mainly this render was to see how the materials looked like. But i will try using an hdri or make one and see if i can get better renders.
Shogunato
28-09-07, 08:24 PM
Maybe if you move just a bit your light and reduce the cone angle, the reflection will looks better.
The render is not so bad ;)
Levente
28-09-07, 10:04 PM
that render has nothing to do with studio ,theres just an omni placed behind the car firstly in studio you dont have sharp shadows, just area , you use omni with the intensity like 0,2 max just to light up the dark areas, but not with 200 multiplier, i tried the followin thing: made a hemisphere flip normals put the car in
apply gradient 1 vray light, 2 omni
younglion
29-09-07, 01:10 AM
@ shogunato - thanks man, ill work on that
@ levente - actually its a spot light and the intensity is 35 with a linear decay and i dont use vray i use mental ray, i heard that chaos group was working on a plugin for maya but i have not heard anything yet, but ill try your suggestion. Thanks

The windows and seams don't look too realistic. Need some rubber around them, especially the rear window needs some work. The litle circular bits on the back look very flat, with no highlights. Same with the side skirts. The ' kleeman ' word badge doesnt even look straight :s Your door handle area looks too sharp and doesn't have any highlights. The seam at the front of the door curves around nicely whereas the rear seam on the door curves inwards and outwards. Should it be like this? On the rear bumper, the gap between the bit that sticks out and the diffuser should be bigger.

@teddy - well actually the cl doesnt have any rubber on the rear glass check the ref image, about the rear diffuser it doesnt stick out that much on the real ride either, i dont know why the badge looks distorted but its straight in the viewports i will probably model a new one. everything else im gonna fix thanks:D
@shogunato - yea cause i used a gradient in ps for that so its flat:p i will fix those

Even if theres no rubber on the back which you wouldnt be able to see cos the window is glued on it, your seam is still incorrect. Also, why did you post ref of cl600 ??

which seam? the glass or the roof? well the cl60 is the same as the cl 600 just a few differences like the front and rear bumper the side skirts and the kleemann badges on the car.
