I don't use Vray but it would be easier to know what you want if you post an example of your own work (the one you say is not as good as you want) and , perhaps, an example of what you want to approximate.

So we can understand/see what it is you are trying to achieve when you say realism.

Tell us what is missing from your renders ...

:)

The only real difference I can see is in the level of reflection in your paint and chrome (lights). And you have still to do the glass texture.

Do you have a fresnel fall-off to your reflectivity (and you are using the same HDRI map as your background for the reflectiion environment map ?). Is your car colour just a solid colour (you can also use fresnel falloff for the colour).

Also do you use any spotlights or omni lights in your scene ?

Silver is a difficult colour to get right. It has large areas of specularity (which you will NEVER get with a simple HDR Skylight alone - unless you use a little blur to your reflectivity) - so an alternative is to carefully place an omni light to give that kick, and some interesting shadows. Have a little look here :

I actually think your composite is slightly better than the other pic, and your modelling has improved a great amount.

wow thanx for the vote of confidense dave, it means alot coming from some1 like you!
with regards to my chassis paint, im trying to replicate the paint job of the actual car which is silver, i have fresnal reflections on a vray material. the fresnal is at 1.3.
for the lighting it is just the hdri and the reflection is the hdri map i will try it with an omni in a sec, i will place it to the opposite side of the hdri lighting (is this right) i do have a glass matt on the lights but it doesnt seem to show up too well in the renders shall i make it more blurry?

Ah ! Then I think you will see the effect you can get with another light besides the HDRI.

If you are getting most of your light from the HDRI, make the new light quite weak/low value.

I use a couple of these lights in my scenes, because you will NEVER get a specular hit on your tyres with an HDRI Skylight alone. The example pic also has this problem ;)

You can see from my rear wheel, which is silver, the highlights and the kick on the tyre (old texture).

Place the omni and move it around in your shaded viewport until you get the effect you like. It can go anywhere (and you can use lots of them, it is how the magazines do it - they have several powerful lights and flashes for that kick ;) )

Hey diablo.. the problem is your paint.. it need more reflection.. or a greater value of fresnel IOR... try something near 3~4

Hi. I do not want to start a new thread with this same subject. Could you please help me? I use Brazil but I just can`t get some renders that I really like, so I installed V-Ray. I posted probably the best render I achieved, but I would like to make renders like those with the Skyline. I`m a noob in V-Ray, but not in Brazil, so I guess some quick material and lighting tut will do (or a link...or anything to make renders just like that). Thank you for any help.
