    ok but if we dont have rhino????
    anyone can do it directly, from studio to max? and whats tipe of file is better?

    maybe the studiotools 13 already have that kind of exportation, ´cause now max and alias are from Autodesk.

    thanks

    you need to either export with different tesselation settings, or you can try getting them over to max as nurbs. Best way would be via powertranslators (but they might be a bit pricey if you dont need it all the time). You can export as igs (IGES). That should import as maxnurbs. Might have compatibility issues tho, you need to test that.

    You can grab the Powertranslators/nurbs demo and give it a try. Will work for 30 days. If you forget to convert to editable polys or meshes you can still display, render and tesselate the breps with the free viewer plugin. when using nPower i´d suggest stp (STEP) as export format in AST.

    Quite a common question yours....And not always easy to accomplish !

    Well, ST 13, exports to maya straight. That s one way.
    The other, is to export as IGES....and here the TOLERANCE SETTINGS of the export, are fundamental. And they are related too, to the tolerances u used, at the modelling itself.

    By changing the TOLERANCE values, and a little tweak at tesselation settings, u should get it fine. And no need to go to rhino! Rhino may be easier to get what u want...or actually unbable to do so, as it lacks all the control ST gives regarding the surfacing. Plus, if it is native ST file, is another reason not to take it to rhino.

    A last note....ST cant do what is actually impossible to do......If for example you have patched sufaces, with different spans.....ST cannot do a miracle an match them, cause thay are parametrically different. So, your surfaces should all be parametrically similar.When you have trims....sometimes after exporting, u must re-trim in the other application. Whenever possible , dont use trims!
    Trims are never good news!

    Hope that helped on something u could have forgotten.
    I wrote this, without looking at the other opinions, which i ll see now, of course, because i didnt want to be influenced before answering.

    If u keep having trouble, just post here the problems, with screenshots of problem areas. We ll all help in what we can!

    Good luck

    File menu -> import

    3ds file type is the default, simply point the 3ds model and click...
