i am learning maya now :chinese: , and i think its time for me to try and model something more serious like a car in maya , but i am having problems with the blueprints , how can you know what size to build the plane so it fits the texture ( i know stupid question , but i am a new to maya  ), the scale there is strange , i cant figure it out , lets say for exemple you have a 640x480 blueprints texture what value do i put in the scale of the plane , or where do i change the units to pixels or something ?
in my opinion you have some object in Maya called Image Plane specially done to place blueprints - this is the way it works in Studiotools.
look for it and then check the differents option you have.
in Studiotools, you copy the image in the clipboard, then paste it Ctrl+Shift+V and it creates a image plane with the blueprint on it.
Rain Knight: your right, there are image planes which you can set up , and there you have regular pixel values B u t , i get mixed up with this :dead: it comes up wrong ,like for instance when i put the side blueprint to the side orthographic view , and it puts it like a front one and also it is too big , so i have to make it smaller and although it automaticly fit the texture on , somehow i get to a point where in the end i have inaccurate allignment of the blueprints in reletive to each other , isnt there a simple way like in cinema or max to build up regular polygon planes and then put the texture in the material on it in maya ??
well the way i setup mine is create planes that fit the size of the pic (its very important you get the size right) in your case if the image is 640*480. i will just create a plane thats 6.4*4.8 or 64*48. as long as the ratio is the same it dont matter. and just apply the texture/blueprint to the plane.
Ya, paps is right, that's the way to do it. If you wanted the work you could make a 1x1 and multiply scale but that's pointless. Also, i thought i'ld give you another tip that i found. Create a layer and put the blueprints in it and set it to reference. That way you won't be selecting them all the time.
