OK, I've been having a LOT of problems with artefacts in my Renders using Max 8 (black drop-outs, coloured tinted blocks etc.). I have contacted Autodesk with a file I was using and they too have the same problems. Their QA team in Montreal is looking into it now. I was advised to fall back to Max 7.

So ... no new renders until Autodesk debug the software.

    I broke Max8

I'll need to keep busy doing something else ....

Autodesk has got back in touch and the rendering artefacts are officially classed as a Bug for Max 8.

It is now with their software boys.

I hope they can fix this soon ! I'd like to get back to the Capri.

*Drools* A proper Capri. Not like those horrible looking things they turned into in later years.

yes... max8 is back and he is rockin again ...i love your BBS's !

but one thing i dont like, is the plain texture under the vipers which shows a exhaust grille... it doesnt look well - do a relief or displacement ...or model it .. but i am sure you noticed that before i told u

Hey love the quality of your work, look forward to seeing more of it... just wondering how you fixed that bug problem you were having it seems I'm in the same situation...

The artefacts I was getting were actually created because of blend material and mask maps. Autodesk are aware of this bug and are Beta testing a fix for the next service pack.

Before I was getting this kind of mess - look at those red (and balck and blue and green) squares :

Until the service pack is released you can adjust your shadows in the render options (although this can significantly increase your render times) :

But now ... I've adjusted the masking and bump maps :
