Hello, My name is Brian Ellebracht. I have recently decided to start up a small studio with a good friend of mine, Dave Owen. Dave and I have been working in the auto industry for a few years now, and we have recently decided to start our own business offering Digitizing/modeling and finished print images. Dave is a great modeler and I have been lighting and texturing cars for some time now. We do not plan on starting our studio until Late Jan/Feb. In the mean time, we decided to model and render an old cruiser for our portfolio. Most of the model has been completed by Dave, and I am starting the texturing and lighting process. I just came across this site and thought that I would start a post, We would love to get some feedback. The only things left to model are a few small items, turn signals and tail light interiors, fixing the body gaps between the sheet metal, and adding a spare tire carrier. Dave has put quite a bit of time into this model, and we have been trying to keep it a bit quiet. This is the first time we have posted it anywhere. Any ideas, critiques and comments are welcome!!! I have been torn between texturing this cruiser as old, diry and beat up, or as a restored cruiser with little to no wear. I am not sure what the best route would be. I am flying out to Utah in a week to take Backplates to put the cruiser into. If you have any suggestions on what style to texture the cruiser I would apreciate it. I would love to make it dirty and used, but it needs to look professional since this is going to be our first portfolio piece. Thanks you for your time,
Brian Ellebracht & Dave Owen

very very simple test to give you an idea of the color we want to go with on this Cruiser. What do you guys think ? Restored (not perfect, but still in good shape) or old (oxidized paint, dents, scratches, minor rust ect...)? Thanks
Its hard to say at this point how much time Dave has in the model, he has been working on it in his spare time. We started out by actually digitizing a real 72 cruiser, to ensure that everything would be in scale. The tires were modeled off of the tires on my Jeep Rubi. the FJ was modeled in Maya. Everything is Quads, The lowpoly cage has 861,027 faces lol. Hopefully rendering print res won't kill my machine.
I do really love this car (as old land rovers) , it isn't like one of those "SUV" that many people buy today.
I can only wish you best continuation!
I am in a hurry to see textures
I think you should do two versions:
one old african, with ochre sand and dust.
and one restored.
One Day, I Will...
(...finish my little Website?)
(...finish this WIP?)
(...or this one?) newest
cool, Thanks guys. Talked to Dave and we decided to go with an older look, not perfectly clean, probably oxidize the paint and stuff. I am really looking forward to working on this because I have done so many "clean" cars for work. I have attached some images of the kind of work I usually do, so this will be a great change of pace. I will post some WIP images asap. Thanks,
Brian
BTW Dave did alot of the modeling on the Mustang and GTI as well.
here is the latest update. Very simple textures so far. Now I just need to start to work on one section at a time to add scratches and/or wear where it is needed. Amost everything is turned on on this render except for the rear jump seats....I couldn't render them with this because it would run out of memory Nothing is smoothed yet either. What do you think of the lastest image, and my ideas of where I want to go with the paint?
excellent work. nothing to says about the model, and this simple texture are enought for a good white studio rener.
would be cool to have such dirty texture with this model. way better for such car than clean studio set up. make it a hard life, with some old and big scars of a tormented life..
anyway keep up the (really) good work. waiting to see this baby going dirty and used...
just wanted to register after being shown this site by a friend, finding your work, and being amazed!
fantastic stuff!
im new to the 3d thing.. but my mates an old hand at it and has got me into it.. and after seeing your work its made me want to do a suzuki samurai (my fave off roader) in the same style...
thanks a lot for doing a yota fj.. i love them, and that looks really sweet!
