    Ford Escort MKII RS

This isn't a new model ... but I am updating the files and hopefully have time to finish it. Been a bit busy with other projects ... good to get back to 3D

Here is a little preview of the Forest Arched Rally Escort MKII :

For a good start in compositing have a look at Sefs' tutorial here :

    Great work man.
Thanks for the composition tutorial link.
Do you happen to have a link to a tutorial that produces that sweet paint?
What did you use to render?

    Hi Dave,

The paint is just a simple raytrace material with a fresnel falloff to the white colour, and a fresnel fall-off to the raytrace reflection. The HDRI makes it look good with teh bright highlights (matched to the background) .. and some spots and omni lights for specular.

Rendered in 3D Max with Mental Ray.

I agree dave - mkII's looked mint as did most old skool fords as they all had their own character - now they all just look the same and ford are notorious now for doing it - you can bet the new fezzy will get their current trend for citreonC3/focus lines bolted on very soon which I'm just not fond of :/

did the mkII's have that 'netting' in the hole of the headrests? thats really interesting and a nice detail Dave

stupidly nice render - wish I could get my cosworth looking like that
mk4 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 WIP
    Sierra Cosworth RS500 WIP
    Nissan Skyline R34 GTR

..IBL ..FinalGather ..jobs a good un! well maybe not..

    Thanks guys ...

I've been busy with other things but came back and refined my setup so that I can have the warehouse shot (as above) or more of a studio shot (below).

Also created a tiny wee avatar sized spinning anim :

    Studio test. Not finished yet.

Ant : Yup, those are the legendary "Fishnet Recaros". You have Noooo idea how I lusted after a set of those for my MK1 Escort when I was younger :D

LG : Well spotted :D I forgot to include the layer with the internal wing parts and engine ! It is there. I'll show you with the next render, it looks better as you say I have many layers that I switch on and off to get different wheels, wings, and nose etc., and also to speed up the views when I am working. Sometimes I forget to switch all the right ones back on again

The anim was created with 100 frames and then loaded (as ..import folder as frames) in Adobe ImageReady and played around with settings to get it below 200kb (normal limit for most avatars).

Done a white one with the RS2000 nose (more layer switching) - but getting the lighting right for both bright white and dark black is tricky. Also keeping the file size down is also difficult :

EDIT : For you, LG :

    Yes ... I know

I think it took about 1 minute per frame ... so I just set it up and went to bed. I had to turn the AA filters up because at such a small size you see bad jaggies with the textures. Also had to use good amount of FG but still needs to go higher to bring the shadow to the bottom of the tyres. That's MentalRay for you .... :banghead:

Need to check the Res ... think it was 180 x something.

I just wanted to check out the studio lighting I was testing - don't normally render like that.

Need to do a HIGH res one when I don't need my PC.
