You may of seen my work in the rendering forum askin a question on refraction and reflection. I think may have a solution to this now, my next problem is Im trying to create the correct reflection of my car in the floor.
At the moment the car is sat on a vray plane which is made matt to make it invis, has anybody created a nice mirror surface which can retain the shadows and also create a nice reflection.
Here is my scene so far
1) A Floorplane that has a reflective material to it
2) Make it a matte object
3) turn on shadows and affect alpha below the matte settings
4) be sure to leave the three spinners below (Reflection Amount, Refraction Amount and GI Amount) to 1
why won't you make these reflections in a seperate chanel with "screen" type in postwork?

mainly because we would like to get as much out of 3ds max and the rendering prog without having to do too much photoshop work
Its not a lazyness thing, we are just trying to see how much we can acomplish from 1 render. Obviously there will be some post work, but we would like to try and get that near perfect render!
Not only that, but it's (obviously) not a true reflection. You wouldn't be able to see the little bit of the underbelly of the car. Wouldn't matter too much on a glossy surface like this but I know it kills me when I see stuff like that on pro-status renders.
Actually it ONLY matters on a glossy surface like that. Because the amount of "reflection blur" varies with distance from the mirror surface on blurry surfaces. With sharp reflections a toned down rendering that was rendered from a cam mirrored about the floor surface IS a correct reflection.
