so here is my studiosetup, you can see 3 planes with environment ramp, the ramp is plugged in the color setting of the lambertshader with 7.000 ambient!
the ramp (typ is: four corner ramp with interpolation smooth).
oh shit this was not the right image, this was a image of another user (he has found the holy grail too)
so now the right and correct image of my setup.
Sorry, self illuminated gradients? my planes have Lambert material with rampnodes for soft shader!!! I think this are gradients?! or what you mean?
Sorry, I don't know Maya. But I think it has some maps for materials that looks like gradient. I mean, you can use these maps with self illuminated material. Main idea - planes will fade to background and you couldn't see its edges in reflections on the car. Hope you understand what I mean now.
looks better, but imo still rim material should not be chrome
ok, i hope the color of the rims are better now!
but now, i have other problems:banghead:. Look on the front rims, i render out with the best settings for FG: Accuracy-1024, Point density-1.000, Point interpolation-20, Filter-2, and Antialiasing with max-2.
But i have uggly efects on the rims:o, have anyone a idea???
ok ok im here guys hopefully to offer some help...the renders are getting better but i suggest adding a light to the scene because at some angles it looks like the car is floating, what material are you using for the rims?.

hello younglion, also the rims has mi_carpaint_shader, but i tested with a standard blinn too, with the same effect. I have no idea what the problem is!?
i have the highest settings with FG, but everytime with the same effect on the rims. I tested with higher polygons ( and with subdivision surfaces ) but without differents.
sorry younglion, what do you think, better a spotlight or a pointlight to the scene. i am a nob with studio setup without hdri, but i think with a light in the scene it looks not real. have you special settings to your lights?
@micky - well theres nothing special about light settings just proper placement but every studio has its own issues with that, the reason i said use a light was to help properly define the shadows, but you can do this without lights and its perfectly fine, the problem with the rims maybe it could be shadow settings, or geometry dont really know. as for lights spot or area light would be better, but you dont have to use em as i mentioned earlier.
@et-fone - that tut is so old and novice, micky is much advanced...maybe i might consider doing an updated tut.
hello, thanks for all helpful comments.
@ younglion - yes please, doing an updated tut:buttrock:! i think the reflections now are not bad (but nood very good ). With the shadows on the car you have right, its a little bit swimming on the ground! i will tested with a spotlight with low settings, only for shadows, not for the light in the scene!
