    Rhino?

Alot of people seem to using rhino to build there cars and then back into max. I am thinking about doing the same can someone tell me if rhino is just like 3dsmax in the modeling aspect or does rhino have better tools for modeling?

rhino is for nurbs. 3ds is for poly. while both offer extremely limited toolsets to do the task of the other, nobody attempts nurbs in 3ds and vice versa. the interfaces are also very different.

    regards,

so would you say that modeling nurbs in rhino for cars is better vs max polys?

    I wouldn't say that.

NURBS is a completely different geometry from polygons. To compare the two would be like comparing apples to oranges. For more information, read Wikipedia

Polygons have certain advantages over NURBS, such as the ability to change the shape of objects after you have modeled it by moving the vertices around. With NURBS, you would have to redo the entire surface. That is why polygons are favoured amongst some car modelers on this website.

But NURBS have the advantage of generally being smoother. Because NURBS is mathematically accurate, whereas polygons are really straight-edged, professional car designers tend to use NURBS. On the other hand, because it is faster for computer hardware to "understand" polygons, polies are used in video games and so on.

awsome well i am preety well rounded with polys but to get some nice curbs for these cars that are built around in these forums would you guys suggest to start with the cage in rhino and then go into max for the details or just do the entire car in max, i guess its also a user preference but its seems to me like the outer body would be better off modeled in nurbs to get some nice curbs what do u guys think?

nurbs it's a tottaly different modeling concept. few times you'll have similitudes between polymodeling and nurbs modeling. the interfaces are different too. and you need to have a lot of knowlegde of the concept and maybe even some mathematical concepts. if you have no ideea how to use rhino, you'll be dissapointed at the begining, nut if you're perseverent then you'll aichive far more better results than in polymodeling.
as long as it seems you didn't started to use any nurbs software, i suggest you to take a look at the alternative softwares too, like AST wich i think it's better
    wish you luck

Thanks peter for the advice. i am going to check out some other softwares the reason i came to rhino is because i used it a while back for like rims and things and it was great. i mean i could probably achieve nice curves using polys to but i was thinking i should learn another modeling alternative. But thanks a bunch for the help.

I total agree 100 percent with Purple puppy.... I'd say exact same thing if Purple puppy never posted any of this yet...

I want to make additional too... I d say it depends on individually... Some have patience some don't.

Obviously, there are so many impatience modeler out there.... Or a modelers who is really in hurry to finish their project and move on... NURB isn't for that.

    Hope that clears
