    exhaust pipe

    Hi Folks

    A texturing question,what`s the best way to achieve that heat discoloration that you see sometimes on exhaust pipes that get very hot..it almost has that oil slick look to it....like a rainbow effect.Would the best way be to use a gradient map on the pipes shader?

    Yea that would probably be the best way. I just dont think its supposed to be a rainbow, but more a blue-brown-yellow gradient as shown on this pic:

    Best tip is unwrap your model of Cat back, Exhaust pipe or Muffler in 3ds max, then paint them in PS giving the burnt coloration effects as diffuse and reflection color.

    If you're using VRay, Try this --> Burn Tip Exhaust Mat.
    Register there if you haven't. Download this material and study how this work.
