350z - First Project Car -DeMoN

    Hi guys,

kinda new to the site, been browsing through it all and its just a info paradise!!! i got a friend recommendation to this site which is awesome for crits especially for cars. keep it up u lot :buttrock:

right, a bit about me, i'm currently a student at uni, and i've chosen to model this car with an alternative kit after the base model is done (just needs mainly the lights and back end to be sorted.) i have been working on this since november on and off due to other uni work

heres a present shot of the work atm. i'm using 3dmax and vray as the renderer.

i only recently came across the vray plugin, so still a newbie to the whole thing(any tips would be greatful ). i also found that i will need to separate my mesh for vray materials to work, but that will be done once the mesh is finished. i have past renders of the model in its early stage if anyone wants me to post up (altho aint cracking)...

its all one mesh apart from the wing mirrors, front grill and the indicators (and the wheels of course)..

any crits or advice would be awesome!! especially if you can point me to a good tire bump map tutorial or about how i go about doing the lights....

    thanks in advance

    1> Weclome
2> Seem like its a clean work...
3> If you want to hear crits or comments... please post several unsmooth models. (We can't tell what's error was without seeing original mesh)

Althrough, I can see your error...you have bumps and the the wheel arch looks wrong. Google up on image section, try to find several 350z's and take a look at it very careful.

    Hope that helps.

Your wheel arches are quite irregular.

To help model the arch, draw a simple spline circle and place that inside the arch - it will give you a guide to adjust the arch ..

yeh you are right about the arches... the front one is slightly bigger than the back and aint rounded properly.. i will get down to sortin it out asap.... and for the bumps, kinda knew about them, just wished i max had an iron tool or something to help me out with this problem... but thanks for pointing it out

heres the pics of the wireframe with no meshsmooth.. hope this is ok for what you ask for..

wow thats a lot of edges to work with :P it also seems very short (top to bottom) and the wheel arches need loads of work , if ur useing blueprints they must be way off.

I think he used accurate prints but stretched them in 3ds Max by mistake. The model is way off in a way but accurate in another.

Whoa that's LOT of edges.. and a little messy work. That's one of the reason why it creates bumps. Maybe later I can point you out where error are. As of now I am kind of busy here.

    hey guys,

yeh i'm currently reworking the arches and making the mesh smoother.. note about the blueprints, yeh they are pretty rubbish even tho i scaled them properly in photoshop before i had set them up in max.

also, i soon found out that the blueprints that i was using was a sports version of the 350z and not the box standard version. therefore i just decided to work from eye from that point to see if i could do it by eye instead rely heavily on blueprints...

but i will post somemore pics when i get some more of it done.. thanks again
