    [ast] bmw m3 e92

    Hi!

I am a Swedish 23-year old Alias modeler and this is my first forum post, of an M3 coupe. The modeling itself is pretty quick and dirty since it's only purpose is rendering. No need for strict A-class but some areas require more work than others to get the highlight running properly.

The rear wheel arch is a bit wide, will massage it down.

I have only half an hour a day to model this so it might take a week or so to get the sheet metal finished. Details and filleting will take considerably longer Will post updates as soon as I have anything to show.

Forgot to show you some previous work. The first car I did was this Nissan GT-R, took me a good month to do while learning A-class modeling.

Duron: I am trying the best I can to look at references, but I find it quite hard compared to my usual modeling where I often get a clay mesh or/and technical critera to model upon but I will take it slow to get a better result.

ravenzep: Of course. Below are some images of my patch layout. As I said, this can be done better if I had other requirements. But I think my layout suits my purpose just fine.

EDIT: Anyone know why my images comes up in a new window, but only a thumbnail? I want them to pop up directly on the screen. I use the uploader here, should I just link to the images instead?

Some more diagnostics. This is the hood from above.

Trying hard to get the right section here for a good highlight

Almost happy with the main surfaces. Some more work to be done on the front fender and a little tweaking of rear wheel arch and bumper transitions surfaces.

looks alright mate.... And thank you for posting some wires.
If it is not asking to much, can you explain basically, how you constructed that 5 sided trimmed surface at the bottom of the A-pillar?
    Thankx

I have one easy solution, it is just a blend surface that Ive extended and cut. As long as the CVs get a good distribution and you're able to extend it a couple of milimeters without problems, you can still keep G3 continuity there.

EDIT: After some thinking, I have to add that the surface you are asking about is a hard one to model "for real". There are often tons of criteria surrounding these areas, depending on car model. My easy solution is of course only for show, so no need to make it harder for me than I have to. As long as I get sufficient continuity/good highlight I'm happy

heheheh.... That s why i asked. That s one of the hardest areas to do for sure. Just wanted to know how you tackled it. Ok, i see perfectly what you have done.
That s one of the solutions. I do that sometimes, but i hardly have 5 sided surfaces, not to say never. Anyway, your solution is perfectly fine to me, and looks nice.
Thank you very much for being so kind and explaining.

Regards and good luck with the modelling.
