Hi all. At first, I would like thanks for your attention. Could you see those ugly edges of my rendering? I actually have already set min and max samples to 1 and 16. But, I still can't smooth line of the edges. What should I do to avoid this kind problem? I am using mentalray 3ds max and hdri light studio. Thanks.
Did u set final gather on? I'm using maya and MR, sometimes i get these edges with sample levels at 1.
So i get it up at 3 when i render the latest image. Just try, is a matter of anti aliasing.
(i found it in Quality -> Raytrace/Scanline quality -> Max sample levels)
Or maybe is a wrong reflection problem, did u convert the mesh yet?
I once had a similar problem in xsi....If what Briex says above didnt solve your problem, check the spatial contrast in render setup, on the renderer tab under sampling quality. I think by default you should have in max all values set to 0.05. Are they?...Try with this value or lower it a bit. Maybe that makes a difference.
Worked for me in xsi. Hmmmmm.... Could be many things really.
Hi, Briex and ravenzap. Thanks for your answers. I didn't turn final gather on at this rendering. Yes, It is definitely an anti aliasing problem, but I think it might my wrong setting with shaders or reflection. I am going to try it soon, and post my rendering later. Thanks.
Hi, here is my rendering. I did turned sampling to really high to avoid the edge problem, however; the rendering time is still acceptable. I think the problem is due to my shader setup, and I am still trying to findout a way since the 4 and 64 sampling are really high.
The modeling has done by my co-works. And I actually response for rendering and compositing.
Hi,
Nice render. It looks like your choice of anti-aliasing filter that is causing the jagged edge. Are you using Vray? I usually use Adaptive DMC, and the Mitchell-Netravali antialiasing filter. By accident I had another filter selected a few months ago, and was having the same trouble you are.
Hey, Dariene_O. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I am not a Vray user, I am a MR user. I think my problems are due to the shader setup and lighting. I am still looking for solutions. Anyway, thanks you like my rendering.
Hi again,
Which anti-alias filter are you using? (Box, Lanczos, etc) Did you try each one of those? Besides changing numerical settings, sometimes changing the actual filter helps the smoothing on fine chrome trim edges.
