View Full Version : Lowpoly 2007 Jaguar XK
Seems like there is not much lowpoly work on these forums but I will post my model to get some professional feedback, since the model is made without blueprints. The model has ca.5000 tris so it is lowpoly in terms of modeling technique but will be quite high poly compared to game models. It is modeled in Zmodeler2 and I have spent about 22h on it so far.

post a wire also :D
My PC dosen`t support AA, as I already said I didn`t use any blueprints, just pics (as far as I know there aren`t any bps available).
Altrough you can`t see much thanks to lack of AA, here`s the wires.

He's modelling the NEW XK, those BPs are for the old model ;)
Looks fine to me.
Don't think it will be any more difficult to unwrap than any other car.
I have some photos from the Geneva Motor Show - I'll try and find them.
Dave
sorry for this dump question, but why do u have only trias?:banghead:
@Dave_3d- Thanks! pics are welcome.
@X-Ice- This model is modeled mainly for games, all games that I know of use tris instead of x gons, for example, if I´d use a hexagon somewhere, the game would automatically convert it to tris potentailly leaving me with some mess in that place, useing tris lets me control all the edges.

games can use quads ;)
and here are some good blueprints:

THOSE BLUEPRINTS ARE FOR THE PREVIOUS VERSION - he is modelling the NEW 2006 XK as I stated above.
Even though Max will display quads you can still see that they are actually constructed from 2 co-joined triangles and you can adjust the orientation of the vertical line dividing them for greater control of simple smoothing.
I am still learning about game modelling .. ;)

ups.. my bad, i just saw the side i didnt even look at the headlights or anything really.. much less the date lol
as for quads being triangles, of course.. but game models still have quads in them

Wow, Its nice to see you doing new XK with blender. I personally don't like the new XK but I am curious how you would do.... keep going.

Looks good, but there is one thing, which looks quite wired to me: It is the area at the back of the car. For me there is the x-axis a little bit too strange.
@Dave_3d- I`m modeling in Zmodeler2, the quad thing works the same in there but the only way to reorient the diagonal of a quad is to convert it to a trangle.
@XCNuse- What games? I´d like to make this car available for as many games as possible, the most that I know of use tris, so I`ll be useing tris.
@EquiNOX- I´m actually modeling this in Zmodeler2, I don`t understand blender that good yet. I too favor the old XKR but the new XK is starting to grow on me, now that I´ve spent so much time staring at it.
@Checker2k3- Could you be more specifc than "a little bit too strange", what should I fix?

any.. i havent found any games that dont use quads; like dave said, quads are tri's in disguise really.. but i know for a fact that LFS uses quads, but im also positive that any other game does.. but its really the same thing; they displace as quads but they are really just 2 tri's
nice ;)
how many poly do you have for now, and how hight is your limit ?.?
A bit of an update, I made all the bodylines, light glass and windows. I`ll probably make the wheels next. Current polycounts is about 13 000 tris , I don`t have a limit but I`ll try to keep the final count below 30 000.

a lot of tri, but it'll be the next standard for game so, no pb :)

Dont forget that wheels take up a LOT of tris, so if your body is around 13k, then to match the amount of definition in the wheels to that of the body you will need around 5-10k per wheel.
Your Jag looks good so far. A little hard to see whats going on with all the tris in the wire though.

Looking good , could you show us some wire's ??
Thank you for the comments!
Made the wheel, ca. 2400 tris each, which makes the current polycount about 22 000.
@Sky_Eagle- the wires are on the 1st page, there`s not much new to it in the shape.

Great work! :buttrock:
Thank you for the comments, I made some tires, with 3d tread the model is now about 70 000 polies, that won`t go in game but it`s just for practise.

the model looks great m8...
keep it up!:buttrock:
 Damn... awesome what can be modeled without meshsmooth. Like europacar crazymond slice56 and another names that i cant remember now.
Respect :buttrock:
This model looks very nice...and its also nice to see something different other than all the Lamborghinis and Ferrari's being modelled al the time!
Keep it up!
Peace!

What Game will you use it with ?
Looking very good :)

yea man, thats lookin nice and clean! ;)
if you got rid of that tread and used a displacement/parallax map then you could definitely use that in a nextgen game. Most nextgen cars from what I have seen are around 30k-50k tris (depending on interior details). keep it up!
where are you currently living?
Thank you for the comments! I currently have very little time to work on the model so the progress is slow.
@Dave 3d - I`m not sure yet, I`ll see where it would fit when it`s done.
@slice56 - This tire will not be going ingame, the first pic I posted of the wheel shows what I`ll be using for games. Sadly I don`t know anything about the maps you mentioned, I am using zmodeler 2 for modeling and screenshots, I don`t think it supports those maps. Currently I`m in northern europe, why do you ask?

great work so far, I checked the images of the real car and everything looks perfect with yours congrats :)
As I said before I have little time to work on this but I made some small details, on the next update the exterior should be finished.

Great model, really. Better than my "hi-poly" models :D But thete's one thing that I wonder about: why don't You somehow remove the seam that is coming through the middle of the model? Maybe simple welding vertices would be enough.
Anyway, regards. Cool model, really.
