problem with video

Hi,i recently reinstaled windows...and 3d studio max, version 2008.And i have some problems with the display, the geometry sometimes turns black when i select it,and some other problems happen, some times it dissapears, and i have to select something else for it to appear.I thaught it was a 3d studio problem but,i installed today alias studio tools 2008,and i seem to have the same problem.I remember having this in max 9 too.My video card is ati radeon x1600 with 256mb,i have a 3600+ Amd dual core processor,1 gig of ram. Please help me I am very stressed out,i can't work like this.
i also tried changing the driver to the latest, but it doesn't work

well, buddy, the problem seems to be the graphic card, more exactly , the drivers.(also try some older driver versions).
don't know, try switching the graphic card with one of a friend and see if the problem persists.

dak persista, iti sugerez sa arunci calculatorul si sa iei altul :P

i noticed that a wierd sound was coming from the pc when i do certain things, like move a window,or move around the viewport.i opened the case and listened closely, and i thaught that the sound was coming from the video card, but i tried with a borowed one,and it kept making that sound, very wierd.so tomorow i'm taking the baby to a professional service

this is a bit late probably but are you using Vista ??
I ask because i am experiencing exactly the same behaviour. view ports going black and a weird sound from my speakers when moving around the views

I use a nvidia card, unlike you so i think that rules out drivers.

It appears that Max isn't 100% compatible with Vista (i use 64 bit)

I am in the process of going back to XP as recently ive had issues with Vista over USB devices and now my DVD drive, which seem to be well documented problems with no apparent fix in sight.
And i think SP1 didnt help anything ..
