Wow... I wish I had a workstation
At present I don't have a workstation. I have a laptop, on which I do most of my modeling these days since my laptop is actually faster than my desktop PC in several respects (RAM and CPU).
Laptop --> Asus M50VM-B1. Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR2-800, Geforce 9600m GS 1GB, 15.4" 1440x900, 300GB 5400 RPM, etc. My desktop --> custom made in December 2006. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2-667, Geforce 7900GS 256mb, 19" 1440x900, 300GB 7200 RPM, etc. I have to go and buy one of those Mac Pros once the new Nehalem ones come out!! I can't bear doing 3D stuff using my computers... small screen, slow CPU, slow GPU, to say the least! What I need is an 8-core, computer capable of handling 16 threads simultaneously, with a powerful graphics card for viewport rendering plus games, and with 12 or more GB of DDR3 RAM, plus two 24 inch monitors or maybe one 30".

nice workstation. i use my laptop for modeling too (my only computer). you might want to invest in a screen first and then get the computer if your laptop is decent.

@Purple Puppy: i would recomend that u not get a mac pro...get another custom build if u want that kinda power...id recommend it cause, in my point of view, custom builds are more powerful for graphics, but hey, ur just wasting money...ESPECIALLY ON RAM! sure they're powerful, but not as powerfule as some custom builds witha skulltrail motherboard...dam, skulltrail stuck in my head now... two cpu's reight there, 4 pci express slots x16 2.0, and add 2 xeons...and intel might make the skulltrail fro nehalems aswell (most likely they will) and u can put any graphics card......i dunno, ur decision..
btw: why did u install os x on your PC??? dam...i should shutup now...been stuck in computers for too long...lets get "3Ding"!!!

my new/temperary workstation...it's more open, MUCH CLEANER, (im cleaning up the other room) and the custom home theater system is just beside it all, meaning that now im closer to my ps3 than my xbox 360...for now...had to kick my iMac G5/Motorola Mac (as i call it) of the table...
ps: my dad says that crt projection tvs are a million times better quality wise than any lcd... sure there's no "chicken grid" unlike lcd and plasma (the space between pixels) but lcd's don't give brain damage with electromagnetic waves... btw: i feels like im in a very silent lemans race car...the engine right behind you
