i´ve got to admit that the mat for the pad was completely made up (didn´t even bother to look for refpics )
but as it turns out i i wasn´t completley wrong, have a look

@ravens:
umm well i wanted to test the reflect option of the matte material, though i know it´s kinda cheesy CGish stuff.
The bevels of the caliper indeed look strange in some places. That might be a result of the rather low tesselation of the object which wasn´t intended for such extreme closeups.

Cheers

yeah, it look like it reflects a bit more than yours. has a brownish tint and is a bit more random. still, that's frighteningly close for a guess.

Your renderings look Awesome!! was there anything special for your chrome materials? or was it just AD chrome?

we are talking about the caliper? right?

well nothing special about my chrome materials. It´s always just a simple Promaterial: Metal (Chrome, semi-polished or polished).
Key to a good chrome mat though is what it reflects. For a studio setup try a custom gradient or get a decent studio Hdri.

Cheers
