Modeling contest: 350z tuning, RULES - PLEASE READ!
Nissan 350Z contest
Note: the base model will be provided to you, so you will only have to model a body kit and wheels (and everything that's mentioned below). Read further to find out how to get the base mesh. Rules: 1.) only advanced users and beginners (better be some advanced beginners) are allowed (high end modelers are not allowed to enter) If i see any high end modeler participate in this i will delete his thread asap. 2.) do not use the car provided for this contest in any other way outside this contest 3.) model only with poly 4.) do not post your progress in this thread, only post questions 5.) do not download the file if you are not participating, and if you do decide to download it, do not let me see it anywhere else. Credits: theshaddix for running this contest, exidge for providing the model and element for creating this forum where we can run this contest. There will be 3 places: the first place gets respect + you get respect + you get to keep the model and do whatever you want with it + you get a set of some nice rims (which i can't tell you, but you will like them) + you get brake discs + you get some decent calipers + you get tires + you get tire texture (tread and tire wall) + you get a nice asphalt texture made by me + you get to msg me on msn and ask me questions about your car (how to improve your modeling and stuff). The second place will get only half of those things. The third place will get just one thing (which thing that depends on how good your modification is). You will post your progress in this specific challenge forum and call it 350Z_contest_(your name) So, if i were to create a thread i would name it : 350Z_contest_theshaddix You will design and model your own unique body kit + hood modification + rear wing (spoiler) + change the given sideskirts. I am expecting some wild and cool designs from you and i would like to see some mad body kits: wide body or the usual kind. Change the hood (bonnet) part too and make it cool. You will have to model some cool rims and simple brake discs + brake calipers. You can put your own brake discs and calipers if you want, or you can just model some simple ones (the quality of that will not affect this contest). But you will have to model some decent rims (model some existing rims or design your own). How detailed your rims are doesn't matter much, but they have to have style and need to be well modeled (this will affect your points). Download the model here 350zmesh If it doesn't load in your app, download this file instead: 350zmesh2 Start as soon as you want, but the deadline is 3 weeks You are allowed to post sketches of your design (if you have any), but post all that in your thread (that you will create). You will have to name your tuning (come up with some name like spitfire or something). I suggest you take a couple of days and sketch your kit first because this will be one tough contest to win. Model it well and present it as a clay render or a screen capture, or just a screen shot. Your image res. should be at least 800x600. Deadline: Feb. 23. Changed: Feb. 10 Last edited by theshaddix : 02-04-2006 at 11:07 PM. |

now is modeling a nose, side, and rear and hood body kit only a requirement, or is it a limit (meaning; is it possible to go beyond the body kits and just redo basically the whole body)?

oh ye, you can redo the whole body to fit a wide body kit. You can do anything you want as long as it still has some 350z looks. Go as far as your imagination goes with this contest. As i said, im expecting some extreme mad ass body kits and other mods. Put roof scoops and all that stuff on it, but remember that u got 3 weeks, and within these 3 weeks there will be more ppl joining and..., well, just don't do anything that'll be made fun of.
Here are a few images for your inspiration, but your design should not look the same. You can turn that Z into a convertible if you want, but ull need to model some simple interior or something. Last edited by theshaddix : 01-26-2006 at 01:30 PM. |

Like the concept !!
You should do this more often, competition is a very good way to progress Maybe I'm going to try this contest, but I think I have no chance to win, but I will try anyway Just a question, how can I import your .obj in max ? |

There is an import option on the first menu. Then select type "obj" and load.
Not tried it myself - perhaps you can tell us if it loads correctly for Max users ? Dave

Perhaps you need to take the 350Z mesh (that you can load in Max7/8) and Export it in the .3DS format - then see if that will load into Max 6 ?
If that works you could then let theShaddix have a copy so he can post it here. More contestants the better Dave
