    Capri RS3100 - 70s cool

    Hi Everyone,

My first post on CG-CARS - so a big hello to you all.

I've got a preference for old school cars and have previously modelled the MK1 & MK2 RS Escorts (RS2000, Mexico, etc.). I'm now working on this .. Started about 2 weeks ago - so early days yet.

It is the classic Ford Capri RS3100. A very rare version of the MK1 Capri from the early 1970s, which in race form took on the batwing BMWs in the European Touring Car Championship. Less than a few hundred remain. I am in direct contact with the registrars and owners from the RS and AVO owners' club to make sure I get the specific RS details correct

I'm just taking this slowly, finishing the exterior before moving onto the interior and the underbonnet and V6 Essex engine.

Close-up of the headlights - the bump texture is a little crisp, but it displays better at a distance - not really many times I'll be this close to the lights

Thanks for the warm welcome, Teeworks

Bit of a dilemna with the plates - most remaining RS3100s use the modern acrylic plates ... but the older plates are more period ... Choices, choices ..

I have a set of pre 73 (before they changed style in the UK) - I'll render a shot with them next time.

TeeWorks, Here is a shot with the old pressed-style No. Plate (pre 1973). I was actually working on this last night .. an absolute gem of a resource is this website (for UK and Irish style plates) for getting a basic template to start with. I used it myself. It lets you type what you want - not just legal settings ! And uses the correct authorised Font for UK plates.

Absolutehype, I use the latest version of MentalRay that comes with Max 7.5, I've not tried Final Render yet .. it has taken me enough time to get to grips with MR ! Do you use Final render ?

and here are a few screen grabs showing the unsmoothed wires of that nose shot, Anthony ..

Been busy on the structural details - added forward lower bulkhead, inner wings, bonnet ribs and floor pan. Still lots of tweaking to do yet - and the heater bowl/upper bulkhead to finish.
