SolidWorks 5th Generation Camaro...
I'm probably getting a little ahead of myself, but it's been a very long time since I promised to post a SolidWorks modeling project, and I finally have some spare time! This will be a private effort to model the 5th Generation Chevy Camaro entirely with SolidWorks (SW). Should be fun.

umm....not a bad start (squinting eyes) why is the car zoomed out???
from what i heard, solidworks is easiest program to use in the nurbs department...i dunno, i haven't tried it yet. from reviews i heard its good. btw: you can customize any nurbs software for car modelling, cause no software only models cars it only about getting used to the interface cause the calculations for the surfaces (in the end) will be the same for every software...it depends on the tools i guess oh, and i think of solid works in the section of super high end nurbs tools with catia (i think) unigraphics nx is a whole different story... you can make anything AND hook up machines that will make anything you model in real life...its engineering from start to finish...but solidworks has high tolerances!! the highest preset in alias studio tools EDIT: your going to run into trouble with the surface that makes up the roof...its just one big piece

Subsribed!
Working with SW on a daily basis I am looking forward to seeing where this goes... I have tried more than once and failed... bumped up against limitations in the surface manipulation...
...but then again, we will be installing 2009 soon and I haven't really checked what they have changed, but maybe just maybe... I'll be watching. |

@nfsc: Thanks for the input...
The picture in the initial post wasn't intended to communicate anything about the model - I just really like the wallpaper Also, what you can see of the model is a mockup. I prefer to use a general outline of the shape to guide detail creation later, and I'll continue with this method until I have a rough outline of the entire car. I've attached some pics to help illustrate. Looking forward... Last edited by nallen00; 26-12-08 at 03:24 AM. |

heh! Once I had idea to model the car with SW. But did understand that my skills are not enough for this (have some experience at the academy). Will observe your thread. It's interesting for me as an mechanician engineer Good start, keep it up.
btw, are you assigning all the dimensions for all that splines or leaving them "free of parameters" (forgot the right term for this)? will you have no problem at future construction leaving them non-parametric? |

oh this should be good! I used solidworks all through uni so I should know what you are on about
Currently I use Inventor which is in many ways similar. I will watch with interest. Nice start by the way.

ooooo...i like the shader in solidworks...
btw: in ast you have to make the surfaces class a manually most of the time while in unigraphics, with a few clicks you get class-A what i also see is that your using the rhinoceros way of doing fillets (pipe, intersect, trim and build) oh! and im a 15 year old kid who uses his dads software lol (been doing this for 5 years)

isn't SW for solids?
cars cages are meant to be made with surfacing softwares __________________
